UMBC Mock Trial is heading to Nationals!
Mock Trial Team qualifies for 4th time in 5 years!
A month ago I wrote to you and told you I looked forward to bringing you more good news from Mock Trial, and I am thrilled to be doing exactly that. For the fourth time in five years, the sixth time in eight years, and the first time under our new leadership, UMBC Mock Trial has earned a bid to the American Mock Trial Association (AMTA) National Championship Tournament!!!!
I am so proud of this entire team and their amazing coaches, head coaches Thomas Azari '22 and Natalie Murray '22, and assistant coach Lauren Wotring '22, for leading our team of almost entirely underclassmen to AMTA Nationals. Over 700 teams start the year competing for a spot at Nationals, and only 48 teams earn a spot at the final competition of the year. (UMBC of course is familiar with Nationals as the 2021 National Champions, and all three coaches of this team were on that title-winning team.)
In addition to a Nationals bid, the team also earned individual awards! Team co-captain Fadil Adeite was the only attorney to earn double-sided All-National Attorney awards, and first-year member Nathan Yates was the only witness to earn double-sided All-National Witness awards. We are so proud of this entire team for their efforts and countless hours of hard work to earn a spot at Nationals.
And now - we get to work! The team has a few days to rest, but next weekend we receive a brand new case for Nationals, and the team will travel to Chicago in April for the National Championship Tournament. Please join me in congratulating this amazing team, and as always, we are proud to represent UMBC!
Sincerely,
Ben Garmoe '13
