Description

Hey CyberDawgs!

We are excited to be shared with all of you our plans for our FREE to attend Fallout themed Cyber Defense Exercise (CDE)!

UPDATE 9/20/2024: Due to higher than anticipated Graduate Student interest, we have had to cap graduate registrations due to funding and purchasing restrictions.

UPDATE 9/21/2024: Due to high interest in CDE, a waitlist has been started for undergraduate students. However, being on the waitlist gives you the best chance at any opportunity that becomes available.

Registration Instructions

Where can I sign-up? https://forms.gle/FYswimqASvRUBLWW7

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Teams will only be taken off the waitlist if enough spots open up so that the entire team can fit. Please register individually if possible.

If you already have a 4-person team, each person on your team needs to be included on your sign-up form. Therefore, only one person per team needs to fill out the sign-up form.

If you do not have a 4-person team yet, you can sign up by yourself. There will be a team formation channel on the CDE Discord to talk with others and build teams.

Scenario

"War. War never changes."

In the aftermath of a nuclear apocalypse, remnants of humanity sought refuge within heavily fortified underground vaults scattered across the wasteland. These VAULT-TEC vaults, equipped with advanced technology and vital systems, are one of the last bastions of human civilization. The residents of these vaults have been entrusted with rebuilding society after the deadly radiation recedes.

However, time has taken its toll on your vault’s once-flawless systems. What was once the epitome of technological security has become unstable and plagued by malfunctions and vulnerabilities.

To make matters worse, the Enclave has returned, no longer mere rumors or shadows but a ruthless faction of remnants from the old U.S. government. Armed with advanced technology, superior resources, and a cold determination to restore their vision of control, they have set their sights on your vault. This formidable enemy is far more sophisticated than any you’ve faced before, and their goal is clear: to infiltrate, dismantle, and seize your vault systems for their own purposes. They are probing for weaknesses, and the Overseer fears that a coordinated attack is imminent—one that could shatter the vault's defenses and doom all within.

As the vault's elite IT team, you have been charged with a mission of utmost importance: fortify the vault’s technology against these looming threats, neutralize any incursions, and maintain the integrity of the systems that sustain life within the vault. Every decision you make could mean the difference between survival and annihilation. With the safety of your fellow vault residents in your hands, you must also remain vigilant to the Overseer’s demands, responding swiftly to any critical issues that arise. The fate of humanity's future depends on your expertise and resilience.

CDE FAQs

CDE is a Red/Blue Exercise... What is a Red/Blue Exercise?
A Red Team/Blue Team exercise, also known as Red/Blue or Red vs. Blue, is a cybersecurity defense training simulation. It involves two groups: the Red Team, which acts as the attackers, and the Blue Team, which defends the systems.

The Red Team consists of offensive security specialists who attempt to breach systems, while the Blue Team comprises of incident responders who work to secure and defend their network. The Blue Team's role is to detect, assess, and respond to intrusions while also managing routine business tasks.

This exercise is designed to closely simulate real-world scenarios, where a company is under cyber attacks.

How much prior experience do I need?
Come one, come all! Our top priority is ensuring that our Blue Teamers have fun and learn something. To that end, we have structured the competition so that experienced teams will not be bored and the inexperienced teams are not overwhelmed.

Will any food be provided?
We will feed you! Breakfast and lunch. You are also welcome to bring food/drinks for yourself.

How many people can participate?
Our infrastructure and staff can only accommodate up to 60 people (15 teams of 4). Make sure you/your team gets registered quickly. You will be told if you are on the waitlist, if there is one.

What is the absolute latest I can arrive?
8:45am. You need to be checked in, then seated and setup. And you NEED to be here for the Blue Team System Tests part.

Kind Regards,
William Brooks
